Simona Bulwinkle: Well, I'm a dad but I had a daughter born in 1996. Her car seat seemed safe to me. But in context, when I was a kid we didn't have seat belts at all, and the seat belt enforcement laws didn't kick in until after I learned to drive. Infant car seats were required under law, and the hospital told us we had to have one before they would let us leave. Our infant car seat faced backwards. We had a minor collision and the seat worked great. I don't remember any videos, I just read the instruction booklet -- put your knee in the middle of the seat and crank it down hard. As our daughter got bigger, we had to get bigger car seats that faced forward. The funny thing was that the laws seemed to change, and they kept raising the age for required car seats.
